Adoption |
|
|
|
Adoption provides a permanent plan for a child and represents a lifelong commitment. Children of all ages are available for adoption through the public child welfare system, private domestic adoption and/or international adoption programs. It is important to keep in mind that most often the children available for adoption through the Public Welfare System are sibling groups and children over 5 years old. Many younger children are adopted by their foster parents when they become available for adoption.
Adopting Through the Public Child Welfare System
When the county department of children and family services receives permanent custody of a child or siblings, the child(ren) is available for adoption. Children are matched with adoptive families based upon the ability to meet the child’s needs. Pre-placement visits will occur to assist the child and the adoptive family with the adjustment process. Children are placed in an adoptive home for a period of six-to twelve-months before the adoption is finalized. The family incurs minimal cost in finalizing the adoption, and these costs are reimbursable.
Caring for Kids will work with county agencies across the country to find and match your family with children available for adoption. We will attend match staffing meetings, participate in phone conferences, and advocate for your family. We will work with your family and the county agency to allow for open and effective communication through a sometimes complicated system.
Once your family has been selected for a child(ren), Caring for Kids will provide monthly supervision and supportive services to your family to aid in the adoption transition. We will assist you in finding appropriate community services We will also help you prepare for the adoptive finalization and any legal reports and/or legal referrals that are necessary.

Private Domestic Infant Adoption |
|
|
|
Caring For Kids also offers a private domestic infant adoption program. We are licensed as a custodial placing agency by the state of Ohio. Our birth parent counselors work directly with birth parents and our social workers work directly with adoptive families; offering supportive services to both. We respect the right of the birth parent to select the family they would like to adopt their child. Birth parents are encouraged to decide what level of openness they would like to have over the years, choosing closed, semi-open, or an open adoption plan. They are also encouraged to consider other factors that are important to them in an adoptive family. For example, religion; a family that does or does not have children, educational values, etc. We will work with you and the birthparent(s) to create a birth plan respectful of everyone involved, as well as provide counseling and support services. We are committed to a thoughtful process and offer extensive support for the adoptive parents, the birthparents, and the children. Working together will allow for the best possible match which will benefit all members of the adoption triad. Caring for Kids is also licensed to conduct home studies/family assessments to approve families for private adoption, provide matching services and conduct post-placement services for adoptive families. We are a small agency and do not carry large waiting lists at this time. Birth parents will select their family from a photo narrative and letter provided by the adoptive family. They may also request an interview or meeting to help them make this difficult decision. Caring for Kids will support the birth parents and the adoptive family through this process. There are fees associated with this program for the adoptive family. Please contact agency for fee structure and more details.
Private Identified Adoption Services
Caring for Kids can assist you if you have identified a birthmother on your own. We can help you complete your adoption process. You will benefit from the expertise of our staff and the birthmother will receive the counseling services that are so crucial to her well-being and a successful placement. We will also be there to support you, the adoptive parents, through the sometimes-complex process. If you complete your adoption through an attorney, Caring for Kids can provide you with adoption education classes, home study, and post-placement services. Fees are determined based on the extent and type of services needed.
Additional Birth Parent Services
Caring For Kids is available to provide birth parent assessments, present the Ohio Adoption Law and receive birth parent history from birth parent(s). Caring for Kids provides this service to all of our birth parents and will also provide this service for attorney’s and/or out of state agencies, working with birth parents in Ohio. Fees are determined based on service needed and location of the birth parents. Caring for Kids will determine the fee when the service is requested. |

Public Adoption |

Caring for Kids offers a search service for families that have an approved Ohio home study. We conduct searches throughout the United States for children available for adoption that meet the profile desired. We can work with you at the same time another agency is working with you to help increase your chances for a successful match. Simply sign a release of information with your agency and have them send your homestudy to us. We will review and determine if we believe we can service your family. You can then work with both agencies until a match is made.
If your match is made by Caring for Kids, you will then need to do a full transfer from your home agency to Caring for Kids in order that we can provide the services necessary to complete the adoption match and provide supportive services to your family.
If your match is made by your home agency, simply call Caring for Kids and inform us of your match. We will stop searching for you at that time so that you can work with your home agency on your adoptive placement.
There is no fee for this service for children over seven years old. There is a $500.00 search fee to families interested in children 0-7 year old.
Private Infant Adoption
Caring for Kids offers a search service for families that have an approved Ohio home study. Once your homestudy is approved, you may sign a release and request that your home agency send Caring for Kids a copy of your homestudy. If, after reviewing your homestudy, Caring for Kids decides that they are able to provide services to you; you can become part of the search program. In addition to your homestudy, you would need to send two or three copies of your family picture profile book as well as a birth parent letter.
The fee to become part of this search program is $1,000.00. Upon completion of the above documents and the fee payment you will be notified that you are officially part of the Infant Search Program.
NOTE: There may be times that this program is full and we are not able to accept search families. Caring for Kids will accept families from other agencies as often as possible, but may experience times that we will not accept families due to the numbers of families that are currently searching.
